Oklahoma fans interested in attending the Sooners' Rose Bowl appearance are urged to finalize their tickets as soon as possible. OU Athletics Ticket Manager Tom Blubaugh said Monday that sales have gotten out of the gates quickly.

Blubaugh estimated Monday morning that approximately 17,000 tickets had already been sold and added that phone and internet traffic were at a peak. He encouraged fans to be patient as his staff works to meet the demand.

"Our fans are reacting the way we thought they would," said OU Athletics Director Joe Castiglione. "It is important that we demonstrate great support for our program. The Oklahoma fans have earned an outstanding reputation for bowl travel and early indications are that Sooner fans are excited about the Rose Bowl.

"At this point, we believe we can handle all of the orders we are receiving, but we are encouraging our fans to act quickly to ensure their attendance at the game. With things moving this quickly, it is difficult to forecast how long tickets will remain available."

The sale for OU students will begin Tuesday morning. The internet and phone sales start at 8 a.m., with over the counter sales beginning at 10 a.m. Ticket pick-up will begin at least three hours before the game at the Rose Bowl. Student identification will be required to claim those tickets.

All Rose Bowl tickets are $125 each. The OU Athletics Ticket Office, currently located on the east side of the Lloyd Noble Center, is available at 405/325-2424, 1-800-456-GoOU and on the internet at www.SoonerSports.com.

Oklahoma and Washington State meet in the Sooners' first Rose Bowl appearance on Jan. 1, 2003, in Pasadena, Calif.
