NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma volleyball team struggled to a 30-21, 30-26, 30-18 defeat at the hands of Texas Tech inside the Howard McCasland Field House Saturday night. The loss dropped OU to 5-18 overall and 3-12 in Big 12 play. Texas Tech improved to 10-13 overall and 5-9 in conference action.
"We didn't control the ball on offense," said OU Head Coach Kalani Mahi. "We showed signs of improvement but couldn't sustain any momentum. Megan O'Connell had a good individual game but we struggled as a team."
OU was led by O'Connell, a senior outside hitter, who dropped 12 kills in the match. Sophomore middle blocker Candice Woods register nine kills. Freshman Jennifer Mosso assisted on five of OU's 12 block assists.
For OU the game was lost on the offensive end. The total point differential for the match was 25 points and Texas Tech registered 23 more kills than OU. Texas Tech outhit OU .350 (58K-16E-120TA) to .107(35-23-112) further emphasizing the disparity between the two offenses.
Senior Kelly Johnson pounded out 26 kills for Texas Tech after collecting 21 on Wednesday against Kansas. Johnson hit .610 (26-1-41) while also collecting 10 digs for a double-double.
OU welcomes the Texas Longhorns into the Howard McCasland Field House Wednesday, Nov. 13 for a 7p.m. match. Admission to the match is $5 for adults and $2 for children. OU students with a valid student I.D. are admitted free.
