Norman, Okla. - Oklahoma junior defensive end Jimmy Wilkerson is one of 10 semifinalists for the inaugural Ted Hendricks Award. The honor is sponosored by the Miami Touchdown Club and will be presented to the nation's top defensive end.
Wilkerson is joined on the final list of 10 by Virginia Tech's Nathaniel Adibi, Penn State's Michael Haynes, Florida State's Alonzo Jackson, Miami's Jerome McDougle, Alabama's Kindal Moorehead, Texas' Cory Redding, Arizona State's Terrell Suggs, Lousiville's DeWayne White and Miami's Andrew Williams.
A committee of 40 coaches, media and sports information directors votes on the Hendricks Award.
Wilkerson has 24 tackles this season, including six for minus yardage and three sacks. He also has 12 quarteback hurries, two passes broken up and one fumble forced. The Omaha, Texas product has played particularly well in recent games. He has a tackle for loss in three consecutive contests and two of his three sacks have come over the last three games. He had one against Iowa State's Seneca Wallace in the Sooners' most recent game.
Oklahoma's defense ranks among the nation's top 13 in each statistical category.
