NORMAN, Okla. - With No. 5 Nebraska coming to town Wednesday, the Oklahoma volleyball team was looking to earn some respect against another ranked opponent but the No. 23 Missouri Tigers held off the Sooners. Missouri knocked off OU in consecutive games Saturday night, 30-26, 30-27, 30-23 to improve to 15-3 overall and 5-2 in the Big 12. Oklahoma dropped to 4-12 overall and 2-6 in the Big 12.
"I thought we played pretty well this evening," said OU Head Coach Kalani Mahi. "We bounced back from a tough loss to Kansas State and played with Missouri. We were inconsistent serving, which really hurt us and they out blocked us, which proved to be the difference in the game."
Junior outside hitter Christina Barlow had another strong outing as she knocked out 13 kills and hit .250 (13K-5E-32TA). Senior outside hitter Megan O'Connell collected nine kills and sophomore Candice Woods registered eight. Freshman defensive specialist Tara Birkinbine had a match high nine digs.
Missouri was led by Lindsay Noll, who collected 19 kills and hit .406 (19-6-32). Christi Meyers (14) and Shen Danru (12) also recorded double digits in kills.
Missouri out hit the Sooners with 11 more kills, 56-45. The Tigers also out blocked OU 24 to 8.
Oklahoma returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. when they face defending Big 12 champion Nebraska inside the Howard McCasland Field House. The first 100 fans in attendance will receive free OU rally rags. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children.
