Norman, Okla. - Oklahoma running back Quentin Griffin has been named the national college football player of the week by The Sporting News for his play in the Sooners' 35-24 win over Texas, Saturday.
Griffin carried 32 times for a career-high 248 yards and one touchdown. He also was credited with a touchdown reception when he picked up a fumbled catch and ran two yards for another Sooner score.
Texas had given up just 521 total rushing yards through its first five games, but saw Oklahoma break free for 266. Griffin, who averaged 7.8 yards per carry, was the catalyst in OU's rushing attack.
The senior back entered the season with four career 100-yard rushing games, but already has four this season alone.
