NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma's Logan Womack and Lauren MacIver earned Big
12 Soccer Player of the Week honors the conference office announced on Tuesday
afternoon from Dallas. The announcement marks the first time in OU soccer history
that two Sooners have been honored in the same week.
Womack shared Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors with Kansas' Caroline
Smith while MacIver earned Big 12 Newcomer of the Week accolades.
Womack, a junior from Norman, Okla., recorded the first hat trick in Oklahoma
soccer history with three scores against Baylor in a 4-2 come-from-behind win.
All four of OU's scores were in the second half after trailing 2-0 at the break.
Womack's final goal moved her into a tie with former player Jonette Coquat for
the OU career goals scored record at 26. She has seven goals on 31 shots this
season. Womack was named to the preseason All-Big 12 team in August and was the
first OU player to earn first team All-Big 12 recognition after her performance
as a sophomore in 2001.
Lauren MacIver scored twice in OU's win over Texas Tech for the first multiple
goal game of her career and registered two assists against Baylor. The Tulsa,
Okla., freshman has started all 10 games for the Sooners and ranks third on the
team in goals scored (three) and leads all OU newcomers with eight points. MacIver
was named the Oklahoma High School Player of the Year in 2001 after her outstanding
career at state powerhouse Jenks High School.
With today's announcement, Oklahoma has now had a player honored in every Player
of the Week category this season. On Sept. 18, OU goalkeeper Catherine Wade earned
Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors after contributing her third and fourth
shutouts of the season against then-No. 18 SMU and Arizona.
The Sooners (8-2-0, 2-0-0 Big 12) host TCU on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at John
Crain Field before traveling to Ames, Iowa to battle the Cyclones of Iowa State.
