Griffin Named Big 12 Offensive Player Of The Week

NORMAN, Okla. - Quentin Griffin was named the Southwestern Bell Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week after racking up a career-high 201 rushing yards and a touchdown this weekend in OU's 44-3 win at Air Force, the league announced Monday.

The junior running back carried the ball 26 times for an average of 7.7 yards per attempt and also caught a pass for seven yards. The game marked the 20th straight that Griffin has recorded at least one reception. The 201-yard performance marked the first time a Sooner surpassed the 200-yard barrier since De'Mond Parker did it in 1998. Five of Griffins' carries versus the Falcons Saturday went for at least 15 yards.

Griffin, whose previous career-high rushing total was 123 yards versus Iowa State two years ago, eclipsed the 100-yard mark for the fourth time in his career.

Colorado's Michael Lewis was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week while Texas' Dusty Mangum was named Special Teams Player of the Week.

Last week, OU's Rocky Calmus was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for his stellar performance against North Carolina in the Sooners' season opener.

Oklahoma returns to the gridiron Saturday when it hosts North Texas at 6:30 p.m.
