NORMAN, Okla. - OU senior soccer player Christen Secrest was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced today.
The Norman native anchored a defense that posted consecutive home shutouts last weekend against Southwest Missouri State (1-0 on Friday) and Southeastern Louisiana (5-0 on Saturday).
OU, at 6-1 on the season and ranked No. 6 in the Soccer Buzz Central Region Poll, has allowed one goal in seven matches and leads the Big 12 in goals-against average (0.14). The Sooners have also outscored the opposition, 20-1, and have not allowed a goal in their last 348:35 minutes of action, a school record.
Last week, Secrest was named to Soccer America's National Team of the Week.
Oklahoma begins Big 12 play this weekend with games against Kansas on Friday at 4 p.m. in Lawrence and against Missouri on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Columbia.
