NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma men's basketball head coach Kelvin Sampson, who directed the Sooners to the 2001 Big 12 Tournament title, will be the featured speaker at the 2001 Tip-Off Banquet Wednesday, Nov. 7. The event, which is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at the Marriott/United States Postal Training Center in Norman, will help raise money for the Lloyd Noble Center renovation and expansion project that is near completion.
Entering his eighth season at OU, Sampson owns a 156-69 (.693) record as the Sooners' head coach and has guided each of his squads to upper-division league finishes and NCAA Tournament appearances. His last four teams have averaged 24 wins per year and posted Big 12 records no worse than 11-5. His last two teams have averaged 26.5 victories and finished 12-4 in the conference.

The Sooners open their 2001-02 season Monday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. with a home exhibition game against Athletes First at the OU Field House. Last year, Oklahoma finished 26-7 overall and finished the season ranked 13th in the AP poll.
