HUNTSVILLE, Texas - The University of Oklahoma volleyball squad attempted to rebound from a first-match loss at the Sam Houston State Tournament, but was unable to go the distance with North Texas in game five. The Mean Green of UNT defeated the Sooners 23-30, 26-30, 30-26, 34-32 and 15-7.
"A big difference was obviously our serving," said Head Volleyball Coach Kalani Mahi. "We just have to improve in that area of our game."
The Sooners had 18 service errors and 11 service aces in the match with UNT. In the new rally scoring, 30-point games, every missed serve cost Oklahoma a point.
Leading the charge for the Oklahoma were sophomore outside hitters Logan Pierce and Christina Barlow. Pierce recorded a double-double, pounding 14 kills and recording 14 digs. Barlow also had a double-double with 13 kills (hitting .550) along with 10 digs.
Junior setter Jessica Barney dished out 51 assists while recording nine kills.
"I think we're learning more about ourselves as a team," said Mahi. "We played very good defense, at times, and our offense is continuing to improve."
The Sooners face the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. followed by an 8 p.m. match with host school Sam Houston State University.
Oklahoma is now 0-2 on the season with two matches remaining of tournament play this weekend.
