NORMAN, Okla. - OU men's basketball center Jabahri Brown continues to play well for the U.S. Virgin Islands in the World University Games in Beijing, China. The native of St. Thomas helped guide his team to consecutive wins versus Angola and Bulgaria over the weekend as the Virgin Islands upped its Games record to 2-2.

Against Angola on Friday, Brown posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and also contributed four blocks, three assists and two steals in the 76-59 triumph. In first-round quarterfinal action Sunday versus Bulgaria, the OU sophomore registered four points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and two steals in a 67-59 victory.

The Virgin Islands team lost its first two games of preliminary round play, both close contests, to China (77-65) and Greece (81-79) before bouncing back for the victories against Angola and Bulgaria. The 6-10 Brown, who hauled in 13 rebounds versus China, has grabbed at least 10 boards in three of four outings. He ran into early foul problems versus Greece and ended up fouling out.

A member of Group A, the Virgin Islands will face Lebanon today and an undetermined opponent Tuesday. Semifinals are scheduled for Thursday while the gold and bronze medal games will be played Friday. Twenty-eight teams began competition in the World University Games.

Brown competed in 1999-00 at Florida International where he averaged 8.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.3 blocked shots and 1.6 steals in 24 minutes per game as a freshman. The transfer will not be eligible to compete for the Sooners this season until the conclusion of the fall semester.
