NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women's soccer team scored three goals within a span of 12 minutes early in the second half en route to a 3-1 victory over Fury '83 in front of 233 fans at the OU Soccer Complex Friday night in an exhibition.
Down 1-0 at half, sophomore Logan Womack tied the score at the 47:37 mark after a feed from redshirt freshman Erin Young, who led Womack on a length-of-the-field pass. Both Womack and Young were former Fury '81 teammates. Oklahoma took the lead in the 55th minute when junior Shannon Wing scored in front of the net off a dish from senior Jonette Coquat. Womack scored the Sooners' final goal at 59:16 after receiving a lob pass from sophomore Jessica Talton in the right corner.
Oklahoma controlled the second half with a 12-0 advantage in shots.
The Fury's lone score came just 55 seconds before half courtesy of Christie Smeal.
"This was a great game to get in," said Oklahoma Head Coach Randy Evans. "I was impressed with the Fury's intensity in the first half. It woke us up a bit and we responded with great fashion in the second half. We showed signs of a veteran team by playing through some adversity and adjusting at halftime."
The Sooners continues their preseason schedule with a Red and White (intrasquad) match on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the OU Soccer Complex.
OU's 2001 season begins on Sunday, Sept. 2, when it travels to Fort Worth, Texas, to take on TCU at 6 p.m. Oklahoma's first home game is Tuesday, Sept. 4, against Oral Roberts at 7:30 p.m.
