OU's Johnson Heading To Final Four, NBA Pre-Draft Camps

NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma senior men's basketball guard Nolan Johnson and Kelley Newton will participate in a National Association of Basketball Coaches all-star event Friday as part of Final Four festivities in Minneapolis.

Johnson, who led OU with 13.2 points per game this year and also averaged 4.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.5 steals, will take part in the NABC Roundball Challenge. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native will be one of 12 collegiate all-stars who take on the Harlem Globetrotters. The game will take place Friday at 8 p.m. at the Target Center and will be televised at a later date by ESPN.

OU Head Coach Kelvin Sampson said Johnson has also been invited to participate in a pair of NBA pre-draft camps. Johnson will head to Virginia for the Portsmouth Invitational April 4-7 and will travel to Tempe, Ariz., for the Nike Desert Classic May 1-5 on the campus of Arizona State University. Sampson noted that only 40 players are invited to the Desert Classic.

In other OU men's basketball news, sophomore guard Hollis Price underwent successful surgery to repair a severed triceps tendon in his right arm. Price injured the tendon in a collision with Indiana State's Kelyn Block late in the Sooners' NCAA Tournament loss in Memphis, Tenn., March 16. The latest surgery was Price's third since the collision. The New Orleans product also had surgery March 17 and 19 to clean the wound in an effort to prevent infection. A small piece of one of Block's teeth was also removed from Price's arm during the initial surgery.

Price, who averaged 11.8 points, 4.7 assists and 1.9 steals per game for the 26-7 Sooners, is expected to rehabilitate the arm for approximately six weeks.
