NORMAN, Okla. - Barely one month after leading the University of Oklahoma to its seventh national championship, head football coach Bob Stoops announced the 2001 recruiting class during a press conference at Memorial Stadium today. The class, which totals 29 players overall, is regarded by every recruiting service as one of the best in the nation.

Among the 27 high school and two junior college players are six offensive and four defensive linemen, four running backs, five linebackers, three defensive backs, three tight ends, two receivers, one kicker and one quarterback. It was also evident that the Sooners are once again a major force in the state of Texas with 15 players coming north across the Red River to play for OU. The rest of the class represents Oklahoma (eight players), Kansas (2), Louisiana, Iowa, California and Tennessee.
