Norman, Okla, - Rocky Calmus, Roy Williams, Trent Smith and Jeff Ferguson claimed most valuable player honors at Oklahoma's Football Awards Ceremony, Saturday, at the Catlett Music Center on the OU campus.
Calmus and Williams shared the defensive MVP award, while Smith won for the offense and Ferguson for special teams.
Other defensive honors went to Tommie Harris and Jimmy Wilkerson as the co-linemen of the year, and Harris as the top newcomer. The defensive scout team players of the year were Ronbrose Jones, Erin Selvey and Jacob Hager.
The offensive lineman of the year was Howard Duncan, while the offensive newcomer of the year recognition went to receiver Mark Clayton. The offensive scout team players of the year were John Flynn and Aaron Rooney.
The scholar-athlete award was presented to quarterback Nate Hybl, who carries a 3.62 grade point average in business.
The inaugural Bob Kalsu, named for the former Sooner all-American lineman who was the only NFL player killed in the Vietnam War, was presented to defensive end Cory Heinecke. Linebacker Brandon Moore was the recipient of the Don Key Award, named for the former OU player whose career was cut shot by cancer surgery.
The Derrick Shepard Award for the Most Inspirational Walk-on was presented to Danny Cork.
The Sooner Iron Man Award, presented by strength and conditioning coach Jerry Schmidt, went to receiver/cornerback Andre Wooolfolk and defensive tackle Kory Klein. The Iron Man Award went to Larry Pinson and Russell Dennison.
Oklahoma is continuing its preparation for the Cotton Bowl. The 10-2 Sooners collide with Arkansas on Jan. 1 in Dallas. The game will be televised nationally on Fox.
