NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma men's basketball junior guard J.R. Raymond averaged 23.0 points in home wins over Texas and Nebraska last week and was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Raymond, a native of Gastonia, N.C., was a combined 11-for-20 from three-point range and 9-for-10 from the foul line in the victories. He also averaged 2.5 assists.
Against the 20th-ranked Longhorns, Raymond produced a game-high 21 points and four rebounds. Versus the Huskers, he registered a game-high 25 points and a game-high-tying seven boards. All six of his three-pointers against Nebraska came in the first half when he scored 20 points.
Raymond has averaged 23.7 points in OU's last three games after averaging 6.5 in his first 15 outings. Seventy-one of his 168 points this year (42 percent) and 16 of his 35 three-pointers (46 percent) have come in the last three games. He has surpassed the 20-point mark in three straight contests for the first time in his career and is now averaging 9.3 points per game on the year.
The Sooners (15-4 overall and 4-3 Big 12) are ranked 24th in the AP poll and 21st in the current edition of the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll. They play at Baylor Wednesday and at Texas A&M Saturday.
