Oklahoma-Kansas Postgame Notes

Oklahoma's No. 14 Associated Press ranking is the highest the Sooners have been ranked since 1995 when OU entered the Texas game ranked 13th. That game ended in a 24-24 tie.

Entering today's contest, the Sooners had not defeated Kansas since 1995 (KU won the last three contests). The last time Oklahoma went five years without beating Kansas was from 1922-1926.

Senior free safety J.T. Thatcher's three interceptions on the day brought his interception total to five on the season. Thatcher became the seventh Sooner in history to record three interceptions in one game. The last time a Sooner recorded three interceptions in a contest was in 1992 when Darnell Walker picked off three passes against Colorado.

Kansas quarterback Dylen Smith's 77-yard touchdown pass to Roger Ross in the first was the longest touchdown reception given up by the Sooners since last season against Colorado when CU's Mike Moschetti hit Jevon Green for an 88-yard score.

Kansas' first-quarter 6-3 lead marked the first time OU trailed in a game this season.

Senior quarterback Josh Heupel's first-quarter rushing touchdown was his fourth of the season and ninth of his career.

Kansas' 13 points in the first quarter marked the most given up by the Sooners in a quarter this season.

Junior Jeff Ferguson's 62-yard punt in the first quarter was his sixth career punt of more than 60 yards. He also booted a 66-yard punt against Rice last week.

On offense, the Sooners started the game in a double tight end set for the first time this season.

Senior tight end Matt Anderson recorded his first start of the season this afternoon.

Junior Josh Norman's five pass receptions for 98 yards this afternoon marked a personal career high for both pass receptions and total receiving yards in a single game. He surpassed his previous highs last season against Louisville (three receptions, 68 yards) and Notre Dame (three receptions, 29 yards).

Sophomore running back Quentin Griffin's 13-yard touchdown run marked his fourth rushing score of the season and tied his total touchdown output of last season.

Senior defensive back Ontei Jones' second-quarter interception was his first of the season and third of his career.

Redshirt-freshman free safety Brandon Everage's second-quarter interception was the second of his career (he recorded one last week versus Rice).

Sophomore wide receiver Antwone Savage's second-quarter 40-yard touchdown run was his first- career rushing touchdown.

Today's attendance (74,811) was the largest of the season and marked the ninth-straight sellout at Memorial Stadium.

Oklahoma's five interceptions today were its most since 1993 when the Sooners picked off five passes against Texas A&M.

Sophomore Damian Mackey's third-quarter punt return (14 yards) was the first of his career.

Kansas junior linebacker De'Nard Whitfield returned to Memorial Stadium today. Whitfield had originally signed with OU but opted to play for Fort Scott Junior College in Kansas before attending Kansas.

With five receptions for 33 yards, Damian Mackey has now caught at least one ball in 16 straight games and surpassed Eddie Hinton as OU's all-time leader in consecutive games catching at least one pass.

Josh Heupel recorded his 11th-career 300-plus passing game by throwing for 346 yards today.

Heupel's 346 passing yards were the most for a Sooner quarterback against Kansas since Cale Gundy threw for 324 yards against the Jayhawks in 1993.

Heupel's 22-yard touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver Andre Woolfolk marked the 16th straight game that Heupel has passed for at least one touchdown.

Quentin Griffin has now made at least one catch in nine straight games. Today he caught three balls for 49 yards.

OU's edge in time of possession (30:26 to 29:34) marked the first time this season the Sooners led their opponent in the category.
