The University of Oklahoma women's soccer team lost to Texas Tech, 2-1, Friday afternoon in front of 205 fans in Lubbock, Texas. Down 1-0, the Red Raiders rallied to score two goals within a minute late in the second half to win the Big 12 contest. Texas Tech improved to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play while OU fell to 6-5 and 1-2.
After a scoreless first half, the Sooners took the lead when freshman forward Logan Womack tallied her fourth goal of the season, unassisted, from 18 yards out at the 68:18 mark.
However, the Red Raiders tied it at one thanks to Marie Valdez's shot into the upper left corner of the net at 79:01. Her goal was assisted by Kerri Campbell. Then, 55 seconds later, Texas Tech's Carrie Graham scored in the box off a feed from Valdez for the game-winner.
Red Raider goalkeeper Brittney Peese (3-5) earned the victory while OU sophomore Jana Cunningham (4-4) took the loss despite 10 saves.
"Their field had shorter dimensions compared to a regulation soccer field," said Oklahoma Head Coach Randy Evans. "With that in mind, we had to change our game plan a bit. Unfortunately, we weren't proficient enough in those changes."
Oklahoma continues its weekend conference trip on Sunday when it faces Colorado at 1 p.m. in Boulder, Colo. The Sooners will be at home again next Friday to take on Big 12 Conference foe Baylor at 7 p.m. at the OU Soccer Complex. The facility is located at the corner of Chautauqua Ave. and Imhoff Rd in Norman.
