OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The 22nd-ranked Oklahoma Sooner baseball team (39-19) defeated the Missouri Tigers (33-23), 12-6, Thursday evening in Game Seven of the Phillips 66/Big 12 Baseball Tournament at the Southwestern Bell Bricktown Ballpark. OU, the No. 3 seed, has begun the tournament with a 2-0 record for the first time in the four-year history of the tournament and will advance to play the winner of tomorrows Missouri/Nebraska game on Saturday at 10 a.m.
The Sooners scored six of their runs after two were out in an inning, including the game-tying run, as Oklahoma trailed 5-4, in the top of the sixth inning by centerfielder Jerome Godsey (1-for-4) who was singled home by shortstop Tommy Whiteman (2-for-3). Propelled by five singles, OU pulled ahead with three runs in the next inning to capture the lead for good and knock Missouri starting pitcher, Jon Harris (6-6), out of the ballgame.
Every player in the OU starting lineup collected a hit and accounted for at least one run led by second baseman Zach Lekse (three runs scored, two RBIs) and first baseman Rick Park (one run scored, three RBIs) who posted three hits a piece on the night. Rightfielder Jeff Bajenaru established a career-high 14-game hitting streak with a 1-for-6 effort. Austin Coose, who came on to pitch the final four innings in relief of starter Austin Mix, picked up the win to improve to 5-6 on the year.
Missouri second baseman Dustin Barnes paced the Tigers offensively with a 3-for-4 performance, including two runs scored and one RBI.
