Quotes

* Ranked 18th in the AP poll and 17th in the ESPN/USA Today version, Oklahoma improved to 8-1 with its 96-48 victory over Southwest Texas (now 4-5).

* Aaron McGhee finished with a game-high 26 points on 10-of-13 field goal shooting. The junior forward, who played just 15 minutes, also pulled down seven rebounds.

* Junior guard J.R. Raymond tallied 17 points with the help of four three-pointers. Raymond, who drained 95 treys last year, had gone the previous two contests without a three-point make.

* Senior Tim Heskett's second-half layup was his first two-point basket of the season and just his fifth over the last two seasons. Heskett has made 86 three-pointers over the same time span.

* Oklahoma, which took a 52-19 lead to the locker room at intermission, has led at halftime in each of its nine games this year.

* Tonight marked the third straight contest OU scored at least 50 points in the opening 20 minutes (it totaled 59 in the first half versus North Texas and 54 versus Coppin State). Southwest Texas' 19 points in the opening stanza were the fewest given up by OU in a half this season.

* Freshman forward Johnnie Gilbert returned to action tonight after missing two games while recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery. Gilbert played 13 minutes tonight and finished with two points and a career-high nine rebounds.

* Junior post Jozsef Szendrei missed tonight's game with a bruised pharynx and will be out at least a week.

* Southwest Texas' 31 turnovers marked the most by an OU opponent this year. Foes have turned the ball over at least 20 times in five of nine games. The Sooners committed a season-high 16 miscues this evening.

* Junior walk-on Michael Cano scored just his second career basket tonight with less than a minute to go in the game.
