Oklahoma Head Coach Kelvin Sampson
On the game:
"I think that our defense is getting a lot better, especially seeing our development from November to now. We had a lot of respect for Southwest Texas coming into this game. They've played some really good teams. They played Texas very close. I think that we came and were able to make our shots and they had a difficult time getting some shots down. I don't think they played as well as they could have."
On OU's fast-paced play:
"Our players are taking advantage of our resources. We're a very quick team and it showed tonight."
On junior guard J.R. Raymond:
"J.R. is capable of a lot of things. He had four assists and no turnovers and I was really proud of that. It's been an adjustment for him this year because last year he and Hollis were playing almost 40 minutes a game. But this team is very deep and we're getting more players into the game. But he has made the necessary adjustments to be successful this season."
On freshman forward Johnnie Gilbert:
"He is going to get better as the season goes on. I don't think that his offensive game is on the same level that his rebounding is. But he works hard every day in practice so I know that both aspects of his game are going to improve."
On the upcoming game with Arkansas:
"This is our third straight year to play them and it's becoming quite a rivalry. We're keeping last year's victory in perspective because they're a very good team. Their guards are athletic and quick. I hope our fans come out and support these young men because it's going to be a great game."
Oklahoma Junior J.R. Raymond
"I was proud of the way I improved on the little things tonight: assists, taking charges, etc. With each three-point shot I made, I gained confidence. I thought to myself, 'let's go for one more'."
"It helps to be surrounded by a great bunch of teammates and great coaches."
"We trapped more aggressively and cut down on our number of fouls. Those two things I think were keys in our victory."
Oklahoma Junior Aaron McGhee
"Before the game, I was a man on a mission. I wanted to play as hard as I possibly could. I wanted to set the tone early. The blocked shots were one phase of my game I was impressed with tonight. That shows hard work."
"I know the team has momentum going into Saturday's game with Arkansas, but we have to be ready."
