Thirteen Sooners Named to Academic All-Big 12 Soccer Team

NORMAN, Okla. -- Thirteen University of Oklahoma soccer players have been named to the Academic All-Big 12 Team, the conference announced. Every Sooner was named to the first team.

The list includes seniors Ayn Toppin and Mary Morse, juniors Jonette Coquat, Megan Olsen, Christen Secrest and Jessica Volcansek and sophomores Jana Cunningham, Brittany Davis, Krissy Dawson, Jamie Farmer, Emily Land, Teri Marcum and Shannon Wing.

Morse, the school's all-time leader in games played and games started, Coquat, OU's career points leader, and Secrest were first-team selections last season. Toppin was selected to the first team for the third consecutive year.

Cunningham, Oklahoma's career leader in shutouts, was distinguished as one of two Big 12 soccer players who owns a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.

Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the first-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.2 or better GPA, while the second team is comprised of those who have a 3.0 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 grade point average or higher, either cumulative or over the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are eligible.
