November 30, 2000 | Soccer

NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma women's soccer coach Randy Evans was named NCSAA/adidas Central Region Coach of the Year earlier this week. Evans, along with six other regional winners, qualify for the NCAA Division I National Coach-of-the-Year award. Last month, Evans was named the Big 12 Coach of the Year.

The second-year head coach led the Sooners to a school-record 10 wins in 2000 and a berth in the Big 12 Conference Tournament for the first time ever. Oklahoma's 10-9-1 record this year marked the Sooners' first-ever winning season and an improvement over a 4-13-1 record in 1999. Some of the highlights for Oklahoma in 2000 included a win over then-No. 2 Nebraska, 2-1, in Lincoln, and advanced to the Big 12 Tournament semifinals.
