POSTGAME NOTES
SOONER INVITATIONAL

Oklahoma vs. Alcorn State
Friday, Nov. 17, 2000
Lloyd Noble Center - Norman, Okla.

  • Oklahoma's 75-56 win marked its seventh straight season-opening victory. The Sooners have now won 15 of their last 16 season-opening contests.

  • Normally an excellent three-point shooting team, Oklahoma shot just .250 from beyond the arc tonight. Last year the Sooners recorded a .383 three-point mark while OU's guards posted an aggregate .407 percentage. Tonight, Sooner guards were 4-for-19 (.210) from three-point range.

  • For the second straight year, an Oklahoma player turned in a stellar game in his debut as a Sooner. Forward Aaron McGhee, a junior college All-American last year at Vincennes (Ind.) University, scored 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds tonight. Last year in OU's season opener, sophomore J.R. Raymond scored 29 points in his first game as a Sooner in a win against Montana State at the Top of the World Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska.

  • Sophomore guard Hollis Price registered a career-high 10 assists this evening against just one turnover. He also tied a career high with five steals. His previous career best in assists was nine last year in OU's home finale against Missouri, an 83-56 win. With his 10 points, Price recorded his first career double-double.

  • J.R. Raymond, OU's leading returning scorer from last year who averaged 13.4 points per game, served the final game of a three-game suspension for violating team rules. The junior guard also missed the Sooners' two exhibition games.

  • After averaging 120.5 points in its two exhibition games, Alcorn State scored just 56 this evening. Preseason Southwestern Athletic Conference player of the year Marcus Fleming was held to five points. Last year Fleming averaged 16.6 points per outing.

  • The 21st-ranked Sooners play in the championship game of the Sooner Invitational Saturday evening against La Salle. The Explorers defeated UNC Wilmington, 78-71, in the first game tonight. The consolation game will feature Alcorn State and UNC Wilmington at 6 p.m. and will be followed by the title game.
