NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's basketball team held its first practice of the 2000-01 season Saturday morning at Lloyd Noble Center.

Head Coach Kelvin Sampson directed a two-hour session that focused on fundamentals, defense and intensity. Included in the workout were full-court layup and shooting drills, loose ball dive drills, defensive stance and sliding drills, as well as ball-handling and passing drills.

Fourteen players comprise the 2000-01 roster, including seven returning players, six recruits and one walk-on.

Oklahoma, which finished 27-7 overall last year and participated in its sixth straight NCAA Tournament, has been ranked as high as 11th nationally in this year's preseason publications. The Sooners play their first exhibition game Saturday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. at Lloyd Noble Center. Their regular season opener will be played Friday, Nov. 17 versus Alcorn State, also at 7 p.m. in Norman.
