Cook Named Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Year.

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma's Cathy Cook was named the 1999 Big 12 Conference Volleyball Newcomer of the Year and selected to the All-Big 12 honorable mention team as announced by the league office.

Cook, a junior, led the team and ranked third in the conference in hitting efficiency with a .358 mark. She stood among the nation's best for the majority of the season in the category. The middle blocker also was the team leader in kills (311), block assists (76) and total blocks (87).

The Portland University transfer earned all-tournament honors at the Cal-Poly, Oklahoma and Northwestern tournaments. In addition, she established career highs in hitting percentage (.733), service aces (4), block solos (3) and block assists (9) this past season. Cook hit over .300 in 18 matches and .500 or better in 11 matches.
