Tigers Sneak By Sooners In Five Games

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team suffered a disappointing loss on the road Wednesday night to Missouri, 15-9, 10-15, 15-7, 14-16, 14-16, in front of 219 fans at the Hearnes Center in Columbia, Mo. Both teams now have identical 6-7 overall and 1-2 Big 12 Conference records.

Leading Oklahoma offensively was sophomore Chantae Weathers and senior Melissa Christman. Weathers recorded a personal-best 18 kills, while Christman posted a season-high 17 kills. Christman also recorded a team-best .467 hitting precentage. Junior setter Carolyn Kittell dished out 58 assists, one shy of her season high, and added 11 digs and a season-high four service aces. Defensive specialist Maxine Zubiaga contributed a team-high 13 digs.

Missouri was led by five players who finished with double figures in kills, including Christy Myers' match-high 22 kills and .571 hitting efficiency. Annette Luyten and Naaron Branson added 15 and 14 kills, respectively.

The Sooners out-hit the Tigers .273 to .239 overall, but OU recorded .238 and .080 hitting clips in the fourth and fifth games, respectively, compared to MU's .311 and .280.

OU will try to bounce back and even its overall and Big 12 records this Saturday at 7 p.m. against seventh-ranked Texas at the OU Field House.
