EVANSTON, Ill. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team opened the Northwestern Tournament today with a 15-3, 15-3, 15-12 win over West Virginia at Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston, Ill.
With the victory, OU improved to 5-2 overall this season, while the Mountaineers dropped to 3-5.
Offensively, the Sooners registered a .333 hitting percentage compared to West Virginia's .061 mark. Entering this weekend, OU was leading the Big 12 Conference in hitting percentage (.278). The Sooners were led by sophomore Chantae Weathers and junior Cathy Cook, who landed seven and five kills, respectively. Junior setter Carolyn Kittell added four kills, 16 assists and four digs. Brooke Hudson led the Mountaineers with six kills.
Thirteen OU players received playing time in the match, including freshman LaKeisha Broom, who recorded a personal-high two kills. Also, sophomore Ravene Brooks registered a career-high two kills.
OU continues tournament action today when it plays at 5 p.m. against San Jose State.
