NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma mens basketball sophomore Ryan Humphrey, a third-team All-Big 12 selection this past year by conference coaches, has been granted permission by OU head coach Kelvin Sampson to transfer to another university, announced Sampson today.

"Ryan Humphrey has requested a release to transfer from the University of Oklahoma," said Sampson, who just completed his fifth season at Oklahoma. "We have granted Ryan his release and would like to wish him the best in his future endeavors."

"Ive enjoyed my two years at the University of Oklahoma," said the 6-8, 225-pound Humphrey. "I wish my teammates and the coaching staff the best. Theyve been very supportive of me. The people of Oklahoma have given me something to remember and Ill never forget it. To the state of Oklahoma -- thanks."

Humphrey averaged 11.1 points and 7.5 rebounds (ranked 11th in Big 12) in 26.9 minutes per game while shooting .502 from the field last year for the 22-11 Sooners, who advanced to the NCAA Tournaments Sweet 16 for the first time in 10 years. The forward also averaged a team-high 2.0 blocked shots per game to rank fourth in the league. Humphrey, a Tulsa, Okla., native who played at Booker T. Washington High School -- the same school as former Sooner and three-time All-American Wayman Tisdale -- ranks third on the OU all-time blocked shots list with 119 behind Stacey King (228) and Tisdale (209).

In 1997-98, Humphrey was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team after averaging 9.2 points, a team-high 6.5 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per contest. Humphrey was a McDonalds and Parade All-American as a high school senior and was also named Gatorades Oklahoma Player of the Year.
