NORMAN, Okla. - Six University of Oklahoma women's soccer players have been named to the Academic All-Big 12 Team, the conference announced. Juniors Mary Morse and Ayn Toppin, along with sophomores Melanie Brosnahan, Jonette Coquat and Christen Secrest, were first-team selections. Sophomore Megan Olsen was a second-team honoree.

Toppin was a first-team all-academic selection last year while Morse made the honorable mention list. Coquat, OU's leading scorer the past two seasons, was distinguished as one of three Big 12 soccer players who owns a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.

Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the soccer student-athletes earned such distinction following new criteria set up by the faculty athletic representatives last summer. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.2 or better GPA, while the second-team is comprised of those who have a 3.0 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher (either cumulative or over the previous two semesters) and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are eligible.
