Ryan Rainer enters his fourth season at Oklahoma in 2026-27 and his second working with both the men's and women's golf programs.
A former standout golfer at Kansas, Rainer joined Oklahoma's men's golf staff prior to the 2023-24 season under former head coach Ryan Hybl. After two successful seasons with the Sooners' men's program, he expanded his role in 2025-26 to assist head women's golf coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell while continuing his responsibilities with the men's team. In addition to his coaching duties, Rainer serves as the liaison to the Chip In Club and the Women's Red Tee Club, the fundraising organizations supporting Oklahoma's men's and women's golf programs.
In his first season working with both programs, Rainer helped guide the Oklahoma men to an NCAA Regional championship and a 15th consecutive NCAA Championship appearance while assisting the women to their third straight NCAA Regional berth. The women's team finished runner-up at the SEC Championship for its best conference championship stroke-play finish in more than a decade and posted its highest final national ranking in over 10 years. Across both programs, Oklahoma claimed two tournament titles and three individual medalist honors.
During his first two seasons with the men's program, Rainer helped the Sooners qualify for the NCAA Championships twice, win NCAA Regional titles in consecutive seasons and capture eight tournament victories. Oklahoma reached NCAA match play in 2025, led the nation with four All-Americans and produced All-Americans Ben Lorenz, Ryder Cowan, Jase Summy, Drew Goodman and Clark Van Gaalen during his tenure.
Before joining Oklahoma, Rainer spent two seasons as head coach at Norman North High School, leading the Timberwolves to the 2022 OSSAA Class 6A state championship ā the first boys golf state title by a Norman school. He was named the 2022 OSSAA Golf Coach of the Year after guiding Norman North to two regional championships, 12 tournament victories and a third-place state finish in 2023.
A lifelong Sooner fan, Rainer was a four-year letterwinner at Kansas from 2002-06 before working in the oil and gas industry and later founding RMR Construction, a home-building company in Norman.
He and his wife, Amanda, reside in Norman with their daughter, Piper.
