STANFORD, Calif. OU junior Jessica Eldridge finished 10th in the 1,500-meter run among a field of 16 of the nation’s top distance runners Sunday night at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational hosted by Stanford University.

Eldridge finished just off her personal best in the event, completing the race in 4 minutes, 17.57 seconds.  The Broken Arrow, Okla., native was third among the collegians in the race won by Reebok-sponsored Lindsey Gallo (4:09.60).

The only other Sooner in history to run a faster time in the 1500 was Kellie Cathey in 1982 (4:16.29).

The result hands Eldridge the No. 1 ranking in the Big 12 Conference and Midwest Region with just one week remaining in the collegiate regular season.

Cardinal Invitational Results

The former U.S. junior national champion has a successful history at Stanford, having run her personal best of 4:17.46 at the same meet last year.  Her previous best this season was 4:21.25 run at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C., on April 6.

Eldridge and select members of the Sooners’ track and field team next compete at the Arkansas Twilight, Friday, May 4, before heading to Lincoln, Neb., for the Big 12 Outdoor Championships, May 11-13.
