NORMAN, Okla. -
OU cross country coach Todd Maycumber announced today that OU will not host the scheduled Big 12 Preview, originally set for Saturday, Oct. 13, because of several scheduling issues. Instead, the Sooner teams will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for the prestigious Chile Pepper Invitational.
The men will run a 10k race at 9:30 a.m. followed by the women's 6k at 10:30 a.m. at the Chile Pepper which is hosted by the University of Arkansas.
"We had scheduled the meet to give teams an opportunity to run the course that we will compete on for the Big XII Championships at the end of the month," Maycumber explained. "However, a number of the teams indicated they would be traveling to other meets this Saturday and we didn't have the kind of field we had hoped to have. There also were some scheduling issues with the Jimmie Austin Golf Course.
"Making this change turns into a win-win for everyone," Maycumber added. "Our student-athletes have a great event to compete in for a final tune-up before the conference meet. We will be competing in a meet that will be as competitive as the Big XII will be. It was the best decision for all involved."
OU will host the Big XII Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Jimmie Austin/OU Golf Course. The men will run an 8k at 10 a.m. followed by a 6k race for the women at 11 a.m.
