NORMAN, Okla. - The OU men's and women's teams will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., Saturday for the 10th annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival which will replace the canceled Big 12 Preview which OU had been scheduled to host. The Chile Pepper will be held at the Razorback Cross Country Complex at Agri Park.
Defending NCAA Division I national champion and third-ranked Arkansas leads a 25-team men's field that also includes Big 12 programs Iowa State, Kansas State, Kansas, Oklahoma State as well as sixth-ranked Portland and area teams Oral Roberts, Texas Christian, Tulsa, Wichita State. The men's 10k race is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m.
The 10th-ranked Arkansas women host a 26-team field. Big 12 teams slated to join the Sooners in the field include Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State and Oklahoma State. The women's 6k will begin at 10:30 a.m.

The Last Time Out
The Sooner teams did not compete last weekend, but they participated in the Cowboy Jamboree Sept. 29.
The men placed 10th and the women finished in 13th at the meet hosted by Oklahoma State. Sophomore Jimmy Buchanan and junior Aisha Stringer turned in career bests in their individual races. Buchanan posted a 25:39 in the 8k and Stringer had a 19:40 in the women's race.
Senior Jenny Ledford showed the most improvement by dropping 42 seconds off her career best time in the 5k. Ledford, however, will not compete this weekend due to a stress fracture in her foot.

The Chile Pepper Festival marks the final competition for the Sooners before they host the Big 12 Championship Saturday, Oct. 27.
The meet will be held at the Jimmie Austin/OU Golf Course and is scheduled to begin with the men's 8k at 10 a.m. and the women will follow with a 6k race at 11 a.m.
