Johnson Hurls Gem, Sooners Even Series vs. Tide

April 03, 2026 | Baseball

NORMAN — No. 11 Oklahoma evened the series versus No. 16 Alabama Friday afternoon at Kimrey Family Stadium with a 4-2 win.

The Sooners (21-9, 5-6 SEC) were led by another exceptional performance from starting left-handed pitcher Cameron Johnson. The lefty went a career-high 6.1 innings, allowing just two runs on eight hits to a hot Alabama (24-8, 7-4) lineup to go with eight strikeouts and two walks. It was the sixth time of his eight starts with at least seven strikeouts.

Kadyn Leon slammed the door, going the final 2.2 innings and retiring all eight batters faced with five strikeouts. The sophomore earned his first career save.

The Crimson Tide began the scoring for the second straight day, scoring on a wild pitch in the first inning. OU answered with an RBI single off the bat of Jason Walk in the home half of the second to tie the game before taking the lead with two runs in the third. Jaxon Willits scored on a wild pitch before a sacrifice fly from Deiten Lachance gave the Sooners a two run lead.

The Sooners pushed the lead to three in the fourth inning on a groundout RBI from Camden Johnson after a walk drawn by Kyle Branch, bunt single from Walk and sacrifice bunt from Trey Gambill set the table.

Alabama plated one in the seventh via RBI single from leadoff hitter Bryce Fowler before Leon entered and retired the side in the eighth and ninth to force a Saturday rubber match.
