OU Falls to Gonzaga in Series Finale

March 01, 2026 | Baseball

NORMAN — No. 13 Oklahoma fell for just the second time this season on Sunday afternoon to Gonzaga by a final of 7-1.

The Sooners (10-2) took the series over the Zags (3-7) with Friday and Saturday run-rule victories before falling in the finale on Sunday.

Gonzaga starter Karsten Sweum cooled the hot OU bats, hurling six innings of one-run ball with three hits and seven strikeouts.

After the Zags scored a pair via home run in the third inning, Oklahoma responded in the sixth with a solo shot off the bat of Brendan Brock. It was Brock's team-leading fourth of the season.

The Sooners had the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh but a trio of strikeouts ended the threat and Gonzaga plated five in the ninth to put the game out of reach.

Brock, Deiten Lachance and Nolan Stevens combined for OU's three hits on the day. It tied for a season low in hits for the team and the Sooners struck out a season-high 14 times.

Freshman lefty Cord Rager took his first loss of the season, throwing five innings and allowing two runs on three hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
