URBANA, Ill. – The No. 6 Oklahoma women's tennis team suffered a 4-2 loss to No. 2 Texas A&M in the quarterfinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship on Saturday at Atkins Tennis Center.

OU claimed the doubles point to open the match for the ninth consecutive time to start the spring season. On court three, Laura Brunkel and Oyinlomo Quadre were first to finish for the Sooners, earning a 6-2 win over Lexington Reed and Daria Smetannikov.

Texas A&M's Mia Kupres and Lucciana Perez answered with a 7-5 victory over Roisin Gilheany and Evialina Laskevich on court one, evening the doubles race. Julia Garcia Ruiz and Salakthip Ounmuang then delivered a hard-earned 7-5 win over Violeta Martinez and Anna Perelman on court two to secure the opening point for Oklahoma. The victory improved Garcia Ruiz and Ounmuang to 7-0 together to start the spring season.

The Aggies responded in singles, picking up straight-set victories on courts three and five, as Reed defeated No. 123 Chloé Noël 6-3, 6-3, and Daria Smetannikov earned a 6-1, 6-3 win over Ounmuang.

At the No. 2 spot, No. 41 Perez topped No. 12 Garcia Ruiz 6-4, 6-2 to give Texas A&M a 3-1 lead.

Oklahoma's lone singles win came on court four, where Edda Mamedova earned a 7-6 (4), 6-3 victory over Violeta Martinez.

The clinching point came on court six, as Perelman defeated Quadre 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. The match on court one between No. 46 Kupres and Laskevich was left unfinished with Laskevich leading 4-3 in the third set after Kupres took the first set 6-3 and Laskevich responded with a 6-3 second set.

Oklahoma will continue play at the ITA National Indoor Championships in the consolation round on Sunday, facing the loser of the match between No. 3 North Carolina and No. 10 Ohio State. First serve is set for 9 a.m. CT.
