NORMAN – The No. 1 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team shined on Friday night, securing their second home win with a 198.200-197.475 victory over No. 4 Alabama inside an electric Lloyd Noble Center.
This is the second top-five victory for the Sooners at home in 2026 after defeating then-No. 5 Georgia in the home opener.
"I was really happy about the crowd," head coach K.J. Kindler said. "Obviously, you all know we want to get in that 10,000 range for this LSU meet coming up on Feb. 20. I'm really happy about how everybody showed up and showed out, but we really want to hit the record against LSU, which would be huge. Not just for our athletes, this is going to be one of the most anticipated meets of the year."
Addison Fatta secured the all-around title with her second mark of 39.700-plus on the year as the sophomore notched a 39.725. Fatta also won the vault title with a near-perfect 9.975 and shared the floor title with Alabama's Azaraya Ra-Akbar with matching 9.950s. Lily Pederson, Ella Murphy, Mackenzie Estep and Alabama's Chloe LaCoursiere recorded 9.925s on bars to share the title. Faith Torrez won the beam title with a near-perfect 9.975.
OU led 49.525-49.375 after the first rotation. The back half of the lineup brought the sticks as Estep, Elle Mueller and Fatta each stuck their Yurchenko 1.5s. Fatta was the highlight as the anchor, earning a career high 9.975. Estep notched a 9.95 in the No. 4 spot and Mueller added a 9.925. Hannah Scheible led off the rotation with a 9.80 followed by a 9.85 from Keira Wells and a 9.825 from Lizzy Blessey.
The Sooners used a 49.575, their highest bars score of the season, to lead 99.100-98.725 at the halfway point. Pederson kept the sticks coming from vault with a stuck double layout for a 9.925 in the leadoff spot. Another stick from Murphy earned her a 9.925 of her own, followed by a 9.825 from Scheible. Fatta and Fatih Torrez got the sticks going again with matching 9.90s and Estep anchored with a stuck dismount and a 9.925.
"As the meet was going on, I was thinking we were really sticking well," Kindler said "Five out of six stuck dismounts on bars. Five out of six stuck dismounts on beam. Three of six stuck vaults, which on vault, that is a remarkable number. We always say our goal is four out of six stuck dismounts, so five out of six exceeds expectations and puts you in a different category."
A 49.525 on beam gave OU a 148.625-148.250 advantage going into the final rotation. Fatta started with a steady routine and a stick for a 9.90, followed by a unique switch-leg side aerial from Wells for a 9.90 of her own. In the No. 3 spot, Murphy added a 9.825 and Estep made her beam debut with a 9.775. Pederson earned a season best 9.925 in the No. 5 spot with a stick on her double full dismount. Torrez anchored with near perfection for a 9.975, her fifth mark of 9.95 or higher this season.
OU closed things out with a 49.525 on floor. Pederson brought energy into the LNC with her upbeat routine for a 9.875, while Murphy's Sinners inspired routine earned her a 9.90. Kamila Pawlak opened with a strong double pike for a 9.925 in the No. 3 spot. Mueller showed off superb tumbling and intense dance for a 9.925. Fatta earned a season high 9.95 in the No. 5 spot and Estep anchored with a 9.650.
The Sooners head to Fort Worth, Texas, for a quad meet against No. 10 Arkansas, Arizona and TWU on Sunday at the annual Metroplex Challenge. The meet is set for a 2:15 p.m. start inside the Fort Worth Convention Center.
