NORMAN – Oklahoma women's golf continues its spring slate Sunday at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational at Palm Aire Country Club in Sarasota, Fla. The Sooners will look to build on a strong finish at their last tournament as the team seeks its first win of the season.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be played at the par-72, 6,191-yard Champions Course. Teams will compete in 36 holes on Sunday with an 8:15 a.m. CT shotgun start, while Monday's final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. CT.
"We're looking forward to getting back on the course," head coach
Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said. "We finished our last tournament playing strong golf over the final two rounds. If we can put together three solid rounds this week, we'll be in a good spot."
The Sooners are part of a competitive field that features multiple ranked programs, including No. 23 Northwestern and No. 25 Kent State. Oklahoma came in at No. 27 in this week's Clippd rankings and will look to rise back into the top 25 with a solid outing in Florida.
In their last time on the course, the Sooners finished fifth at the Paradise Invitational, highlighted by a strong play over the final two rounds.
Gracie Mayo led the Sooners on the week, tying for 11
th at 1-under, carding rounds of 75-71-69 to secure her third top-20 finish of the season.
The Sooners have a history of success at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational, finishing third last season with a team score of 864. Oklahoma recorded a low 36-hole score of 574, while
Audrey Rischer and
MaKayla Tyrrell tied for fifth with scores of 213.
"We're competing against some really good teams, including the reigning national champions, Northwestern, so it will be a great challenge for us," Drouin-Luttrell said.
