No. 2 Softball Concludes March With Home Series Against No. 10 Tennessee

NORMAN  — No. 2/2 Oklahoma Softball (30-1, 8-1 SEC) closes out the month of March by hosting No. 10/9 Tennessee (27-6, 3-3 SEC) Friday, March 28 through Sunday, March 30. The series is the second top-10 series the Sooners have hosted this season after opening Southeastern Conference play against then No. 10 South Carolina March 7-9.

HOW TO FOLLOW & GAME TIME INFO
Game one and game three of the series will be streamed on SEC Network+ with Chad McKee and DJ Sanchez providing commentary. Saturday's game will be televised on ESPN, with Chuckie Kempf and Amanda Scarborough on the call. 

A radio broadcast of Friday and Sunday's game will be available on The Franchise 2 (1560 AM and 103.3FM), with Saturday's game being offered on The Franchise (107.7).

WEDNESDAY IN WICHITA
Oklahoma set a season high for most runs in an inning with eight to start off a high-scoring affair at Wichita State Wednesday. The Sooners tallied a season best 17 hits, outlasting the Shockers, 19-16. Maya Bland posted a career best three hits, Gabbie Garcia drove in four and Kasidi Pickering crossed home three times with the help of a career best four walks. Six different OU players scored at least two runs in a game that lasted over three hours.

VS. THE VOLS
Oklahoma and Tennessee have met 12 times, with the Sooners leading the series, 7-5. Oklahoma and UT last met June 3, 2023 at the Women's College World Series, with the Sooners winning, 9-0, in five innings. The last meeting in Norman came in the 2014 Super Regionals as the Sooners won in three games. OU and Tennessee are even at two games apiece in contests played in Norman. 

ABOUT TENNESSEE
No. 10/9 Tennessee enters with a 27-6 record and 3-3 mark in league play. The Vols took one game against No. 14 Arkansas and two of three against No. 13 Georgia. Tennessee ranks first in the nation in earned run average (1.33), paced by Karlyn Pickens' 0.78 earned run average. Redshirt-sophomore outfielder Taylor Pannell leads the Vols' offense with 11 home runs.

THE GIFT OF GAB
Freshman infielder Gabbie Garcia paces OU with 11 home runs, good for the fourth most among all freshmen in the country. She was named D1Softball Freshman of the Week and SEC Player of the Week March 18. Earlier this month she became the first OU freshman since Jocelyn Alo to homer in five consecutive games. 

3X SEC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Pitcher Sam Landry made it consecutive SEC Pitcher of the Week honors March 25, reaching three for the season. Landry earned complete game wins in both of her appearances at Missouri, spinning a five-inning shutout Friday and a seven-inning complete game Sunday to clinch the series. Landry ranks fifth in the nation in strikeout-to-walk ratio, third in WHIP and tenth in ERA.

DON'T CALL IT A COMEBACK
Oklahoma currently has 11 comeback victories this season and is one of 13 teams in the nation to have double-digit comeback victories. The Sooners came back in multiple games against South Carolina and Arkansas, as well as once against Missouri.

ACTIVE CAREER LEADERS
The Sooners have a number of players in the top ten among active leaders in a variety of statistical categories, particularly between the arms of Isabella Smith and Sam Landry
SEC STANDOUTS
Nelly McEnroe-Marinas and Gabbie Garcia have really performed in SEC play, holding down the left side of the infield as well as the middle of the order. McEnroe-Marinas has homered seven times in league play, while scoring 15 runs, eight more than the next most on the OU squad. Garcia's defense isn't to be overlooked as she's made all 27 plays in the field during conference competition.

PATIENT AT THE PLATE               
Of the Sooners' 269 runs, Oklahoma has scored 81 runs via a walk or hit-by-pitch. Oklahoma has scored at least one run per game via a walk or hit by pitch in 28 of 31 games. The Sooners are first in the nation in walks with 176. 

NEW BATS, SAME RESULTS    
Of Oklahoma's 63 home runs, 36 have been hit by an OU newcomer or a Sooner in their first season. Additionally, six different Sooners have had a two-homer performance this year (Gabbie Garcia, Kasidi Pickering, Nelly McEnroe-Marinas, Sydney Barker and Isabela Emerling and Ella Parker). A total of 11 different players have homered at least once.

WOAH NELLY
Nelly McEnroe-Marinas has started off SEC play on fire, hitting seven home runs through the first nine games. She hit one in each game at Missouri and launched two more at Arkansas, including a go-ahead three-run homer in Sunday's finale.  In SEC-opening weekend she hit two three-run home runs in the same game to help defeat South Carolina, 10-9, March 9. She is the first Sooner to hit a pair of three-run homers in the same game since Lynnsie Elam did so against Iowa March 20, 2022. Four of her 11 home runs on the season have been a three-run shot. 

STARS OF THE WEEK
Kasidi Pickering was named one of Softball America's Stars of the Week March 4.  The outfielder homered four times, driving in 12. Nelly McEnroe-Marinas joined her with the same honor March 11 after hitting a pair of three-run home runs in a 10-9 win against No. 10 South Carolina Sunday, March 9. Righty pitcher Sam Landry joined them both with the same honor March 18 after going 2-0 with two saves, 15 strikeouts and a 0.47 ERA over four appearances. 

CYDNEY SLAMDERS
Cydney Sanders reached 200 games played this season, 144 of which have come at Oklahoma. Her 51 career home runs also ranks sixth among all active DI softball players and her 140 walks are fourth-most among active DI players. 

FEEL THE LOVE'S
Oklahoma is currently riding a 19-game home winning streak dating back to last season. The Sooners are 13-0 at home this year, while over 40,000 fans have seen Oklahoma play at Love's Field this season. In home games the Sooners are outscoring opponents, 117-29, while plating at least one run in nine of the 13 home games. Oklahoma's best inning at home has been the third inning, with Oklahoma outscoring foes, 32-0.

KEEPIN' IT 100
Isabela Emerling hit her ninth home run of the season and also reached 100 career RBIs in Wednesday's game at Wichita State. Ella Parker also crossed her own milestone this season, surpassing 100 career hits in just 82 games.
