Summy Finishes Third, OU Eighth at Pauma Valley
March 18, 2025 | Men's Golf
SAN DIEGO – Jase Summy tied for third, leading Oklahoma to an eighth-place finish at the Pauma Valley Invitational on Tuesday.
The Sooners (+7) struggled in the opening and closing rounds, posting 4-over 288s in both the first and third rounds. A 1-under 283 in the second round wasn't enough to climb into the top five, marking the first time this season OU finished outside that range.
No. 7 LSU dominated the event, winning at 27-under par - 10 strokes ahead of runner-up Texas. Only five teams finished under par at the par-71 Pauma Valley Country Club.
Summy (3, -7) was Oklahoma's lone golfer inside the top 20. The Keller, Texas, native shared the lead heading to the final hole but a double-bogey dropped him into a tie for third. His 12 birdies ranked seventh among all golfers as he secured his third top-10 finish of the season and eighth of his career.
Drew Goodman (T23, E) finished even par after carding a 1-under final round on Tuesday. The senior All-American played the last 36 holes at 5-under, but an opening-round 76 kept him from contending.
Ryder Cowan finished 50th at 7-over, highlighted by a 1-under 70 in Monday's opening round.
Making his lineup debut, Stephen Campbell Jr. (T76, +13) finished outside the top 70, along with true freshman Cam Cheek (T78, +14).
Texas' Christian Maas, who is ranked 13th in the nation, won the event at 9-under par.
The Sooners return to action next week at the Valspar Collegiate, held Monday and Tuesday at Floridian National Golf Club in Palm City, Fla.
