Sooners Claim Share of SEC Regular Season Title with Victory at Georgia

Athens, Ga. – It just means more.

The No. 1 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team claimed its first SEC regular season title Friday night with a 198.475-197.975 victory over No. 9 Georgia inside Stegeman Coliseum.

Finishing with a 7-1 record in their first season in the league, the Sooners shared the title with LSU as the two teams had matching conference records. 

OU closed out the regular season with a bang as the 198.475 marked a new season best team score. The Sooners will head to SEC Championships with a 15-1 record in the regular season.

Faith Torrez and Jordan Bowers shared the all-around title with matching 39.750s. Torrez also claimed the beam title with a near-perfect 9.975. Lily Pederson and Keira Wells shared the vault title with 9.950s. Addison Fatta had a career night, earning a 39.650 in the all-around and setting or tying her career high on vault, beam and floor.

The Sooners opened the meet with a big 49.550 on bars to Georgia's 49.350 on vault. Bowers was the highlight of the rotation as the senior drilled her full-twisting double back for a 9.95 in the anchor position. Pederson rebounded from a fall the week prior with a 9.925 as she stuck her double layout cold in the No. 2 spot. Danielle Sievers and Torrez added a pair of stuck dismounts for matching 9.9s, while Fatta added a 9.875 in the No. 3 spot. Audrey Davis notched a 9.850 in the No. 5 spot after a strong routine.

A season-high 49.625 on vault extended the Sooners lead to .250 at the halfway point as OU led 99.175-98.925. Pederson drilled her vault for the second week in a row to start off the rotation with a 9.95. Torrez was exceptional in the No. 2 spot for a 9.925 and Wells stuck her Yurchenko 1.5 in the No. 3 spot for a 9.95. Fatta set a career high with a 9.90 in the No. 4 spot and Elle Mueller followed with a 9.875. In the anchor spot, Bowers earned a 9.90 to help the Sooners to their season best score.

A big 49.625 on floor pushed the Oklahoma lead to 148.800-148.300. The Sooners closed out the rotation strong with three straight marks of 9.95 or higher. In the No. 4 spot, Fatta earned a career-high 9.95 on her strongest performance of the season. Behind her was Bowers with a stunning opening pass and gorgeous choreography for the second 9.95 of the rotation. In the anchor spot, Torrez showed off her impressive double layout for the final 9.95. Davis set the Sooners up for a big score in the leadoff spot, earning a 9.875 while Sievers followed her with a 9.875 of her own. In the No. 3 spot, Mueller's intensity was on display for a 9.90.

An incredible 49.675 in the final rotation secured the victory for Oklahoma. Davis started things off with a poised and confident routine for a 9.90, followed by a career high tying 9.925 from Fatta. In the No. 3 spot, Pederson added a 9.875 on a strong routine. Bowers continued her impressive night with a 9.95, her third straight score of 9.95 or higher on the event. In the No. 5 spot, Ava Siegfeldt made her second appearance of the season and looked strong and steady for a season best 9.925. In the anchor spot, Torrez was nearly perfect with a 9.975 to cap off the regular season.

Up next for the Sooners is the SEC Championship in Birmingham, Ala., on Saturday, March 22. The Sooners are locked in to the evening session and will find out seeding on Monday, March 17.
