Kyson Witherspoon were named to the 2025 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List presented by Chinook Seedery. USA Baseball announced the 55-player
watch list Friday.
The annual award is given to the best amateur baseball player in the nation. Oklahoma is tied for second with two representatives on the list. Arizona State, Texas A&M and Virginia lead all schools with three players selected.
Carmichael, a 2024 NCBWA All-American and All-Big 12 First Team honoree, started 60 of OU's 61 games a season ago and led the team with a .366 batting average and 93 hits to go with seven home runs, 19 doubles and five triples and 64 RBIs. The Prosper, Texas, product led the Sooners with multiple hits in 32 games to accompany 15 multi-RBI games. In conference play, Carmichael paced the Big 12 with 52 hits, 39 RBIs and four triples while batting .406.
A
2025 Preseason All-SEC Team selection, Witherspoon led OU with a 3.71 ERA in 80 innings pitched in 2024, making 17 appearances with 11 starts and finishing with an 8-3 record. The Jacksonville, Fla., product had 90 strikeouts and finished the season with wins in six of his last eight starts with at least six strikeouts in each.
Overall, 41 schools and 12 conferences were represented on the watch list. The SEC led all conferences with 17 players. Following the midseason watch list announcement on April 3, fans can vote via
GoldenSpikesAward.com with the naming of the semifinalists and finalists. The 2025 Golden Spikes Award winner will be announced in late June.
Season tickets start at $100 per seat for OU's 31-game home slate and inaugural season in the Southeastern Conference, which features home series against Vanderbilt (2019 national champion), Mississippi State (2021 national champion), Ole Miss (2022 national champion), LSU (2023 national champion) and Texas. Single-game ticket prices start at $10 for general admission.
