SEC Announces Preseason Baseball Poll, Team

NORMAN — Oklahoma junior right-handed pitcher Kyson Witherspoon was named Preseason All-SEC Second Team as the Southeastern Conference announced its preseason coaches poll and all-conference team Wednesday.

The Sooners, entering their inaugural season in the league, were picked to finish 11th by the conference's 16 head coaches in the preseason poll. Texas A&M was predicted to win the 2025 conference crown, while five different schools received first place votes.

Witherspoon, a first team All-Big 12 honoree a season ago, was selected to the preseason All-SEC second team as one nine starting pitchers across both teams, selected by a vote of the head coaches. In total, 41 players were chosen to the team, paced by six selections each for Tennessee and Texas A&M.

A USA Baseball Collegiate National Team member this past summer, Witherspoon led OU with a 3.71 ERA in 80 innings pitched in 2024, making 17 appearances with 11 starts and finishing with an 8-3 record. The Jacksonville, Fla., product had 90 strikeouts and finished the season with wins in six of his last eight starts with at least six strikeouts in each.

The preseason No. 20/25 Sooners open the 2025 season at L. Dale Mitchell Park on Feb. 14 vs. Lehigh. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. CT and tickets are available now via SoonerSports.com/tickets
