NORMAN – Oklahoma's
DJ Parker has been named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday. It is the first career weekly honor for the senior from Moline, Ill.
Eleventh-ranked Parker delivered one of the marquee performances of Sunday's dual against Indiana, squaring off with No. 13 Gabe Sollars in a matchup of 2025 NCAA qualifiers who each reached last year's Blood Round. Parker struck immediately with an ankle pick and never eased off, piling up two additional takedowns, a near fall, a reversal and riding time to secure a 14-4 major decision. The 197-pounder has now defeated back-to-back top-15 opponents and fellow NCAA qualifiers as he pursues his third trip to the NCAA Championships this March.
This marks the 55th time an Oklahoma wrestler has earned a Big 12 weekly award. Parker, who holds a bachelor's degree in multidisciplinary studies, is OU's first honoree of the season and the program's first since
Mosha Schwartz received the accolade on Feb. 5, 2025.
Parker and the Sooners will have a week off before heading west for the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev., widely regarded as the premier regular-season tournament in college wrestling. The two-day event runs Dec. 5-6. Oklahoma last competed in the prestigious tournament in 2021.
