Upperweights Propel Sooners Past Indiana

November 23, 2025 | Wrestling

NORMAN – The No. 20 Oklahoma wrestling team picked up its second dual win of the season in its home opener, defeating Indiana 22-13 on Sunday afternoon at McCasland Field House.

After falling behind early, the Sooners (2-1, 0-0 Big 12) again relied on their senior upperweights, who delivered bonus-point wins at 184, 197 and 285 pounds to pull away from the Hoosiers (2-1, 0-0 Big Ten). The victory marked OU's first dual win over a Big Ten opponent since 2022.

Making his first dual start of the season, redshirt sophomore Carter Schmidt put the Sooners on the board with a strong showing against No. 33 Logan Frazier. The Belgrade, Mont., native tallied two takedowns and controlled riding time to earn a 7-4 decision.

Another Sooner making his season debut in the lineup, redshirt freshman Hunter Hollingsworth, came through at 149 pounds. Using a first-period takedown and escape, he secured a 4-2 win over Indiana's Joey Buttler.

Trailing 13-6 in the team score entering the 174-pound bout, Oklahoma responded with four straight victories. Redshirt sophomore Carter Schubert, competing up two weights after wrestling at 157 last season, notched his first dual win at 174 by staying on the attack throughout and breaking through late for a 4-2 decision over Orlando Cruz.

The Sooners' bonus-point surge began at 184, where No. 14 Brian Soldano earned his first ranked win of the season and stayed unbeaten in dual action, shutting out No. 16 Sam Goin 11-0 for a major decision.

At 197, senior DJ Parker wasted no time, scoring an immediate takedown and rolling to a 14-4 major decision over No. 13 Gabe Sollars. The win marked his second straight victory over a top-15 opponent and 2025 NCAA qualifier.

No. 24 Juan Mora closed the door at heavyweight, dominating en route to his third tech fall of the year with an 18-3 win at the 5:33 mark. The senior improved to 5-1 on the season and has now outscored opponents 77-26.
