NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Raegan Beers had 20 points and 11 rebounds, and No. 6 Oklahoma overcame a slow start to beat North Alabama 89-61 Friday morning as thousands of students on a field trip screamed their approval.

Beers made six of 11 shots, most from close range, and all seven of her free throws for Oklahoma (3-1), which outrebounded the Lions 53 to 40.

Freshman Aaliyah Chavez scored 17 points and Sahara Williams added 13 points and nine rebounds for the Sooners. Oklahoma converted 18 turnovers into 15 points.

Chavez, a consensus five-star recruit, was coming off a 29-point performance with seven 3-pointers in a win over Kansas City on Wednesday night. She wasn't as sharp against North Alabama, connecting on 6 of 14 shots and 3 of 7 from 3-point range but hit several timely buckets.

Alexsandra Alvarado scored 14 points, Venla Ulander scored 12 and India Howard added 10 for North Alabama (3-1) from the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Lions shot 32% (22 of 68) from the field and 26% (8 of 31) from 3-point range.

Oklahoma didn't shoot much better, making 29 of 75 shots (39%), but controlled the paint, outscoring UNA 32-14 near the basket.

The Sooners missed their first 10 shots, most of them close to the basket. A Chavez jumper ended the drought, and OU went on a 22-12 run for a 27-12 lead after one quarter. Oklahoma took a 57-33 lead at halftime on a deep 3-pointer by Chavez at the buzzer.

Oklahoma extended the lead to 66-33 on a 3-pointer by Payton Verhulst early in the third quarter. Zya Vann added two free throws and the Sooners lead grew to 35 points.

Oklahoma wraps up its four-game, six-day stretch on Sunday when it travels to Cullowhee, N.C., to face Western Carolina. The Sooners topped the Catamounts 122-56 last season in Norman. Sunday's matchup airs on ESPN+ and the Sooner Sports Radio Network and concludes a run that has covered nearly 4,500 miles with games in three time zones.

POSTGAME NOTES

• No. 6 Oklahoma defeated North Alabama 89-61 on Friday morning at Lloyd Noble Center in front of 8,405 fans, including 8,030 students on Field Trip Day. The Sooners have now won seven straight Field Trip Day games, an annual event that brings students from across the state to Norman.

• The Sooners hit their 67th point at the 6:01 mark of the third quarter, when a Zya Vann free throw sent Lloyd Noble Center into a roar that peaked at a game-high 106 decibels.

• Oklahoma has now won 15 straight against unranked, non-conference teams in Norman – a streak that dates back to December 2023.

• Ten of Oklahoma's 11 players scored on Friday, led by Raegan Beers who notched her SEC-leading 47^th career double-double with a 20-point, 11-rebound performance that saw the center add three blocks.

• Aaliyah Chavez scored 17 points, highlighted by a buzzer-beating heave from halfcourt to end the first half. With her fourth straight double-digit scoring game, she became the first OU freshman since Taylor Robertson in 2018–19 to open her career with four consecutive games of 10 or more points.

• Sahara Williams added 13 points, nine rebounds and five assists as the 5-11 forward continues to lead Oklahoma with 10.8 rebounds per game this season.

• Zya Vann finished 12 with points and was 4 of 5 from the free throw line. As a team, Oklahoma, who entered the day shooting 60.3% from the charity stripe, went 23 of 28 (82.1%) from the line.

• Oklahoma dished out 18 assists compared to just nine turnovers. The Sooners are averaging just 12.8 turnovers per game this season, which is the second lowest through four games to open a season under Baranczyk.

• The Sooners outrebounded North Alabama 53-40 and have registered 45 rebounds or more three times in four games – fourth-most in the country.
