Sooners Drop Narrow Contest at No. 13 Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Zhuric Phelps had 15 points, Henry Coleman III added 14 and No. 13 Texas A&M held on for a 75-68 win over Oklahoma on Tuesday night.
Texas A&M (16-5, 5-3 SEC) led by four with about 2 1/2 minutes left when a three-point play by Wade Taylor IV extended the lead to 68-61.
Brycen Goodine scored all five Sooners points in a 5-2 spurt that cut it to 70-66 with less than a minute to go. But then Coleman made four free throws to secure the victory.
Goodine was 5 for 9 from 3-point range and had a game-high 24 points for Oklahoma (15-5, 2-5), which had won two in a row after dropping its first four conference games. Jalon Moore scored 22 for his 11th performance of at least 20 points this season.
Taylor added 12 points for the Aggies, who bounced back after a 70-69 loss Saturday to Texas. Pharrel Payne had 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Aggies won despite going 4 of 24 on 3-pointers while the Sooners made 10 of 22.
Postgame Notes
• Oklahoma (15-5, 2-5 SEC) outscored Texas A&M by 18 points from 3-point range but was outrebounded 47-19 (21-2 on the offensive ends).
• The Sooners shot .477 from the field and held Texas A&M to a .375 mark (the third-lowest opponent figure of the season), but were outscored 20-3 in second-chance points. The 28-rebound deficit was OU's largest of the season.
• OU, which trailed 31-30 at halftime and 63-61 with just under 4 minutes remaining, was outscored by 13 points at the free throw line. Texas A&M entered the game ranked last in the SEC with its .674 free throw percentage but converted at a .829 clip tonight, making 29 of 35 attempts. OU was 16 for 22 (.727).
• OU guard Brycen Goodine, who scored 34 points with the help of 9 for-11 3-point shooting in the Jan. 8 OU-Texas A&M game in Norman, scored a game-high 24 points tonight and was 5 for 9 from long distance. He entered the game leading the SEC in league play with his .500 3-point shooting and is now shooting .512 (21 for 41).
• Goodine's 24 points were his second most of the season. Fifty-eight of his 143 points on the year (41%) have come against Texas A&M.
• Senior forward Jalon Moore finished with 22 points on 6-for-8 field goal and 9-for-10 free throw shooting, good for his 16th straight double-figure-scoring game and team-high 11th 20-point contest of the season. He has scored at least 20 points in five of the last eight outings.
• Freshman guard Dayton Forsythe finished with three points, three assists and a career-high four rebounds off the bench. His 22 minutes played were his second most of the season (played 26 vs. Alcorn State on Dec. 7).
• Freshman guard Jeremiah Fears, who entered the game ranked ninth in the SEC by averaging 16.7 points per contest and had scored in double figures in 18 of 19 games, was held scoreless in his 19 minutes, going 0 for 5 from the field.
• Oklahoma returns home to host No. 24/RV Vanderbilt (16-4, 4-3 SEC) on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Lloyd Noble Center.
