Oklahoma Welcomes Georgia Sunday for Alumni Day

January 24, 2025 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN – Oklahoma looks for its 23rd straight win against unranked conference foes at home on Sunday when it hosts Georgia at Lloyd Noble Center. The Sooners (15-4, 3-3) are coming off a loss at No. 2 South Carolina but haven't lost back-to-back games this season. Georgia (9-11, 1-5 SEC) enters the contest on a three-game skid and has lost six of its last eight.

The Sooners will welcome back over 40 women's basketball alumnae for the game as the program celebrates Alumni Night.

Tip is set for 1:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network+ with Chad McKee and Latricia Trammell calling the action, and the game will air on 107.7 FM The Franchise with Brian Brinkley and Kevin Henry on the call.

Doors to the arena open one hour before tip for the general public, and the Lloyd Noble Center's clear-bag policy is in effect.

THE STARTING FIVE

  • Oklahoma ranks eighth nationally in points per game, scoring 86.6 points per contest. The team's program-record-tying streak of 70-point games was snapped at South Carolina last Sunday at 18 games, but the Sooners are on track to set a school record for scoring offense as the 1984-85 team's record of 84.5 PPG is in jeopardy.

  • Powered by the 16th largest crowd in the country on average this season, the Sooners have dominated at Lloyd Noble Center, winning 18 of their last 19 games, with the sole loss coming against No. 5 Texas on January 2. Oklahoma has defeated 15 consecutive unranked opponents at home and hasn't dropped a conference game to an unranked team in Norman since March 5, 2022, against Kansas. This season, the Sooners have been especially impressive at home, outscoring unranked opponents in Norman by an average of 37.9 points overall and 16.0 points in SEC play.

  • Oklahoma has navigated the 18th-toughest schedule in the nation this season, taking on six top-25 opponents and an additional road matchup against a team receiving votes in the AP poll. The Sooners face one more major January challenge with a top-five showdown at No. 5 LSU next week. However, after February 1, Oklahoma's path is a bit lighter on paper, with only two opponents currently ranked in the AP poll.

  • The Sooners' projected starting five boasts 341 combined starts, led by Nevaeh Tot's 124 starts as the veteran guard has started 103 straight games for Baranczyk. Other projected starters include Skylar Vann (58 starts), Raegan Beers (56), Sahara Williams (52) and Payton Verhulst (51). Vann, Williams and Verhulst started 31 games together last season.

  • Of Oklahoma's 29 regular season opponents, 13 are in the latest bracket on ESPN, including four from its non-conference slate (UNLV [W], Duke [L], Louisville [W] and Michigan [W]).

LAST TIME OUT

Oklahoma fell to No. 2 South Carolina 101-60 on Sunday on the road in SEC play. The Sooners (15-4, 3-3 SEC) fell behind early and couldn't get back in the game against the defending SEC and national champions. South Carolina took a 28-9 lead into the second quarter and led by 25 at the break. Raegan Beers led Oklahoma against South Carolina (18-1, 6-0 SEC), scoring 23 points and grabbing eight rebounds. The All-American center has scored in double figures 17 times this season. Skylar Vann added 13 points in her first double-figure game of conference play.

SERIES HISTORY

Sunday's matchup is the seventh all-time between Oklahoma and Georgia, with the Bulldogs holding a 5-1 series lead.

The Sooners are tied 1-1 with UGA in Norman, winning the most recent meeting in 2008. The Bulldogs have won the last two meetings (2009, 2020).

UP NEXT

The Sooners take on No. 5 LSU (20-1, 5-1 SEC) on Thursday in Baton Rouge. Tip is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
