NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma soccer team extended its winning streak to four games with a 3-1 result over ULM on Thursday evening at John Crain Field, improving to 5-0-0 at home.
Oklahoma (6-1-0) received goals from
Hadley Murrell,
Leonie Weber and
Abigail McNulty while out-shooting ULM (6-2-0) by a 16-4 margin. The Sooners added five assists on the night, enjoying a terrific night on the attack despite facing a five-player back line for much of the evening.
Murrell struck for the match's first goal in the 25th minute, winning a tackle and receiving a terrific pass from
Alexis Washington on the counterattack before racing ahead and sending a right-footed kick home. Washington's assist marked the 17th of her career, moving her just one shy of the program's career record.
Following a successful ULM penalty kick in the 59th minute, Weber put the Sooners back on top with a brilliant finish of a Clifton pass. The latter collected a feed from Murrell on the near sideline and launched the ball into the box, finding Weber between two defenders for a perfectly-aimed shot.
The Sooners pushed their lead to 3-1 in the 79th minute, generating an incredible chance for McNulty thanks to two terrific passes. OU keeper
Caroline Duffy launched a goal kick to midfield, flicked ahead into the attacking third by
Sophia Green. McNulty gathered the perfect pass and raced ahead, finishing strong with the left for her first goal of the season. Duffy's assist on the goal stands as Oklahoma's fourth-ever goalkeeper assist and its first since Kelsey Devonshire recorded one in 2012.
Duffy improved to 6-1-0 on the season, recording two saves with ULM's lone goal coming on a penalty.
Thursday's match featured 21 combined fouls and eight combined yellow cards.
McNulty, Murrell and
Michelle Pak shared the OU lead with three shots each. The Sooners placed seven of their 16 shots on frame (43.8%) and limited ULM to just four total shots.
